Stratford Continuing Education Offers Free Practice GED Tests

From March 19-21, 2012, Stratford Continuing Education will be offering a free opportunity to Stratford residents to join our current students and participate in taking a practice GED test.

In today's economy, an individual's education is an essential component to their success. The importance of earning a high school diploma is at an all-time high, as the job market grows more competitive.

For over 60 years the GED test has provided adults who did not complete their formal high school program the opportunity to achieve a high school diploma.

The test consists of five content area assessments: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. If the student is able to pass all five content areas and reach the minimum total standard score, they will have obtained a State of Connecticut High School Diploma, opening many doors leading to a successful future.

Additionally, 96 percent of companies accept applicants with a GED for jobs that require a high school diploma. (Society for Human Resources Management, 2002).

GED recipients have gone on to achieve successful careers in a variety of different fields. From the Honorable Greg Mathis, a U.S District Court Judge, to actors and entertainers such as Bill Cosby and Michael J. Fox.

The practice GED test will include all five content areas that are administered during an official test. For those individuals without a high school diploma, the test is an opportunity to experience the testing process and become familiar with academic expectations.

In addition to taking the test, all test-takers will have a one-on-one meeting with a Stratford Continuing Education faculty member who will explain that student's individual scores and discuss the implications. The meeting will help students understand their current academic abilities and what steps can be taken to prepare for the actual GED test.

As with any test, preparation is key for success. Stratford Continuing Education ABE/GED program is a free service offered to adult residents of Stratford to help them prepare for the challenge of the GED test.

These courses help students of all backgrounds and abilities to become better prepared for the challenges of the GED test by improving academic and test taking skills, while assessing student work for overall improvement.
