USDA requires at least six inches of space above a dog's head -- not so for this pug at John Schmucker's (USDA 32-B-0210) IN kennel; he sold to Puppie of Westport in 2011.

Driving laws are very important and needed, particularly the no talking or texting on phone whileRead More driving law. That saves human lives. Are there sexting laws? And is jaywalking enforced anywhere except California? I assume that if puppy mills can't sell in CT or don't get rid of the dogs by the time they grow up, they kill them. How about a law that prevents the governor from robbing money from one section of the state budget to pay for other things? How about a law bans open containers from moving vehicles in CT? How about a law that provides tax incentives to our dwindling business environment? It's sad that these dogs are dying or born sick or whatever. But a lot of things are sad. That doesn't mean we need to waste taxpayers' money or our legislature's time on it.

There's a lot of things we shouldn't need laws for, but we have them. Driving while texting,Read More sexting, jaywalking, etc etc , but we have them. Waste of tax payer's money? Sure it is, but when common sense doesn't step in, we have to be told how to behave. The animals didn't ask to be born, why should they suffer? No more than a child is asked to be born and then punished for it.

@KerriAnn: It's great what you're trying to do, but it's a bit misleading to praiseRead More Petco/Petsmart/etc. for doing "adoption events". These corporations have certainly hosted events for "rescue" organizations with suspect credentials.

Just curious, who did this work of clearing trees that from what it sounds like were healthy atRead More this point in time, and how was it paid for? I am still amazed at how many public work employees I see working on Saturdays at at least time and a half (five standing with rakes in hand at the entrance to Eli Whitney just staring at a damaged piece of curbing a few Saturdays ago). I am sure we far exceeded any overtime budget with a hurricane and historic blizzard. Yet drive around town and look at the number of dead and sick trees on town planting strips that have not been touched. Check out the one on Mt Pleasant near corner of Freeman that the marked for removal two years ago but is still (barely) standing. I have called 3 times to have the one in front of my house that is diseased and half dead removed and am told it is in the system...for three years now and they removed five on my cross street a year ago so they were here and still ignored it. Sadly, the management of this town from most commissions to the council to the mayor's office has been a joke for two decades now. That's what happens when we recycle the same people from one board or commission to another :-(

why not put the dog park there now

The devil is in the details???? What a sly comment. What else can be found in the details?? Next weRead More are going to hear about taking down trees to sell lumber. Funny how the chairman left his own commission in the dark. Bob ford admits he had no knowledge, and they were shocked that this happened. He tries to make the dog park the bad guys.. Seems like a distraction. What scares me is that he leads a commission in charge of such valuable resource. Clearly there is a breakdown in communication which demonstrates a failure of leadership. I feel bad for the other committee members who didn't want such devastation to occur. "The new growth will be mostly grass?" I'm glad we pay some of the highest taxes in the country so that Roosevelt can have more grass. This is an abuse of town resources. Residents of Stratford deserve transparency. If the drafters of the forest plan feel that a dog park is the right fit, what is the objection? This smells fishy.
