Boisterous Crowd at Senate Debate

News and updates on Connecticut's Senate and Third District races.

Senate

The third debate between Chris Murphy (D) and Linda McMahon (R) was reportedly a wild one due to a raucous crowd.

According to the Connecticut Mirror, the crowd, “asserted itself with repeated interruptions of Murphy that ranged from derisive laughter to boos to one woman's shout for him to simply ‘shut up.’"

After the third of four debates came to an end, Murphy accused McMahon of bringing in supporters, “to shout me down off the stage because she’s afraid of debating the issues,” reports The Associated Press.

The debate ended suddenly for television viewers when Linda McMahon had her closing remarks cut off. A post on her Facebook page saying the statement should be aired on the 11 p.m. news received 2,400 “likes” from supporters. WTNH apologized for ending the debate short and said the full debate can be viewed on its website.

3rd District

Rosa DeLauro (D): Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter died on Sunday after representing Pennsylvania for decades -- both as a Democrat and a Republican. DeLauro said this about him on Twitter:

Arlen Specter will be remembered as a supporter of biomedical research, independent mind, thoughtful and serious legislator.

Wayne Winsley (R) had two campaign events on Tuesday. First, he met with voters at the North Branford Senior Center. Later that evening, a “flash mob” of supporters was planned for downtown New Haven.

Wayne Winsley has been campaigning hard, with boots on the ground and hands of friendship extended to every person who is willing to grasp it, regardless of willingness or ability to vote. Contrast this with the arrogant extremist incumbent, Rosa DeLauro, who whittles away her time shmoozing her fabulously wealthy and elite supporters at closed functions. Independents, Unaffiliateds, non-voters, disappointed Democrats and especially anyone registered "R" are NOT welcomed or respected by the Congresswoman. DeLauro has spent 22 years hating and abusing anyone who questions her motives or sincerity. She set the tone for the total gridlock that has paralyzed Congress in its tracks. Her legacy is the total enfeeblement of the legislature, and the empowerment of the executive. A very scary and disturbing legacy, indeed! Worst of all, Rosa is proving herself to be a partisan bigot, refusing to appear on stage or even in the same building as her African-American challenger. What IS this? Now, we understand Rosa received her political upbringing before the Civil Right Act of 1964, but come on! This is 2012 and four years after the first African-American President was elected overwhelmingly due to white middle class voters. There is no absolutely excuse for Rosa DeLauro's racial bias in this day and age! The Congresswoman must prove she is otherwise by debating Winsley fair and square.

The Residents of Ct. are getting the " run-off" on the Debates. Recycled news opinions from The Mirror and the AP. The People of CT Need and Want more of a first-hand-look at the Candidates running for The Senate. This IS a National Office. WTNH hides the debates on its 'sister-channel' My TV 9. I am don't get that channel and neither do alot of others. What's up with WTNH. They have the WORST News broadcasts in this State. WE DESERVE a Better News OUTLET.Now Most of Us have to settle on other peoples opinion of the Debate. Shame on WTNH for their small minds/views. Is there NO room for a real Ct. News Channel?

To Your many excellant points Hansa I must add this information. I attended The FirstPresbyterianChurch Whalley Ave. N.H. (3rd congretional district) Forum. Winsley and DeLauro were the speakers. Here were the rules: Each candidate had one hour to talk. The Candidates were not allowed to be at each others forum/talk. There was to be no verbal exchange of ideas between the candidates. One Candidate came at 5 and left at 6. and at 7 to 8 we had the other candidate. The Church groups chosen topic "Poverty". DeLauro spoke for 47 minutes and the remainder of time was alotted to questions, but only if you were a member of that church or the 3 other hosting churches could you participate. Me and others like me were shut-out from asking any question. DeLauro's prepared forum talk was read from her extensive notes. In other words she fillibustered her time on us! I don't even know what she said. Neither did the others, but after all she is Rosa! Wayne Winsley with No Notes and No prepared Text. Spoke for 20 minutes and took questions from the audience, which now allowed for 'the others' to engage in the Q and A Session. What a breath of FRESH Air. Though the forum was officially over at 8. People lingered to talk to a Candidate running for National Office. (Hey Rosa get out here and lets talk) The people from the 3rd district deserve better!!!

Well, what did he talk about? If Winsley is truly a good candidate, all his work would pay off. Instead, he's an actor/dj/whatever seeking to spread his teabagging views to anyone who'll listen. If you didn't *hear* Rosa's words, you weren't there to listen. You were there to bicker and harrass - like the dopes at McMahon's attempt to rectify her horrid failure in the first debate. Nothing like bringing in your WWE crowd of misanthropes to turn the debate into a circus.

Rosa's lost her edge big-time. She always carries a thick binder with her wherever she goes, and peruses a fixed list of buzz-word answers to whatever question is asked. It is arranged topically with tabs so she can search under, say, "Obamacare" and then "death panels" to find a snappy remark. Her staff compiles this binder on a weekly basis through the DNC talking points cables that are issued every morning. This canned-verse situation has grown so intolerable that Rosa apparently had this binder with her when she taped a closed-session debate with Winsley yesterday. (The ONLY case where she agreed to appear in the same place with her African-American challenger!) She even stopped and flipped through the sacred binder for a proper answer when Winsley stumped her with a remark on Obamacare. She didn't have to do that in her last debate in 2008, so it shows how degenerative her mental capacity has become in four years. I cannot wait to see Rosa make a completely moronic fool of herself on television when its aired on "Face the State" this Sunday!
