Weekend Bluefish Tourney to Benefit Firefighters

The Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation and Stratford Fire Department Local 998 present the 4th annual Long Island Sound Bluefish Tournament this weekend.

Anglers will be taking to Long Island Sound this weekend in hopes of hooking heavy bluefish. 

The 4th annual Long Island Sound Bluefish Tournament will kick off bright and early on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 6 a.m. and run to Sunday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m.

The two-day fishing tourney is presented by the Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation and Stratford Fire Department Local 998. It's $35 per angler age 17 and older, and $20 per angler age 16 and younger. Twenty-five percent of the entry fees will be paid out to the anglers who catch the heaviest fish, which will be weighed at the Birdseye Boat Ramp. All other proceeds will be donated to the Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation.

The foundation was created in 1999 by members of the Stratford Fire Department and looks to "provide economic support to the funding of projects in the areas of fire and burn prevention through education, research and public awareness programs to benefit the residents of the town of Stratford," according to its website

A registration form is attached to this story in the photo gallery. Locals can register up until the day of the event at 8 a.m.
