Stratford to Rename Cemetery Drive in Honor of Departed Firefighter

Lt. Thomas McCabe died unexpectedly Jan. 24. The Town Council will vote tonight to rename the road adjacent to the Stratford Fire Department in his memory.

On Jan. 24, 2012, the lost one of its own.

Lt. Thomas McCabe, a 24-year decorated veteran of the department, at the age of 54. He was not on duty.

Tonight the Town Council will vote to rename Cemetery Drive, which is adjacent to the town's fire headquarters on Main Street, in McCabe's honor.

The resolution is sponsored by Town Council Chairman Joseph Kubic. It reads:

Whereas, Thomas McCabe received numerous citations for his work as a firefighter, including the Town Proclamation of appreciation for work at an infant call, a boat rescue and also for his actions at a motel fire;

Whereas, Thomas McCabe participated in numerous charitable organizations, including the Red Cross, National Guard, Fire Department and the Stratford Community Center;

Be it resolved, the Stratford Town Council hereby authorizes the renaming of Cemetery Drive in honor of Thomas McCabe. The Mayor of the Town of Stratford is hereby authorized to take any and all action in furtherance of this resolution.
