Local enforcement actions for March 1.

On March 1, while on patrol on Bruce Avenue, police observed a vehicle that was owned by a person with an outstanding warrant. Stacian Johnson, 27, of Shelton had an outstanding warrant out of Easton for forgery, carrying a bond of $25,000. There was a small child in the vehicle with Johnson. Johnson said she was the child’s nanny. Police arranged for the child to be picked up at headquarters by his mother. Johnson was picked up by Easton police and transported there for processing.

On March 1, while parked roadside on Copper Kettle Drive monitoring traffic, police observed a car without a front plate. A further check of the back plate revealed a suspended registration. The operator, Timothy Ardito, 25, of Milford, told police he was currently going through a divorce and did not have the money to reinsure his vehicle. He was charged with operating with a suspended registration, operating without insurance, emissions violation and failure to display a front plate. He was released on a promise to appear in court on March 15.

On March 1, police were dispatched to ShopRite on Barnum Avenue Cutoff on a report of a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, police were met by the store’s security person who said he witnessed the suspect, Eileen Johnson, 42, of Stratford Avenue, conceal items in her coat pockets and purse including Pop Tarts, lip gloss, and children’s DVDs. The security person said he observed Johnson pay for items in her carriage but proceed out of the store without paying for the concealed items. Johnson was stopped in the foyer and escorted back to the store. The value of items stolen was $48.64. Video footage of the larceny was also provided to police. Johnson was charged with sixth degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on March 18.

On March 1, police on routine patrol observed a car with an expired registration turn onto Oronoque Road from James Farm Road. The driver, Christopher Battles, 39, of Seymour admitted to police that the vehicle was not registered or insured. He was charged with operating without insurance, an emissions violation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was released on a promise to appear in court on March 15.
