Shoplifting enforcement action taken on May 6.

On May 6, police were dispatched to Family Dollar on Boston Avenue on a report of a shoplifting incident. Upon arrival, police observed a female later identified as Cherisse Simmons, 41, of Bridgeport, at the corner of Grandfield and Success avenues.

Police stopped Simmons and asked her name, and she replied Stephanie Simmons. She later told police her real name and also told police that she was hungry and admitted to shoplifting from Family Dollar.

Police later found the items in a white and green canvass bag including a Reese’s cup, Sunshine Cheezit, Pringles, Twix, Milk Duds, Lance Toasty Cracker among other candy items totaling $8.25.

The store manager told police that he witnessed Simmons walk down the far aisle of the store and put the candy in the canvass bag and walk out of the store without paying.

Simmons was then brought to headquarters where she was charged with larceny, interfering with an officer and criminal impersonation. Bond was $2,500 pending a May 18 court date.
