Stratford - Police Blotter

Enforcement actions taken by Stratford police from March 30 to April 2 including investigation of handgun missing from home.

On March 30, police observed a vehicle on Woodend Road with no front license plate. The vehicle was stopped and it was discovered the plate on the rear of the vehicle belonged to another car and that the vehicle’s insurance had expired. The operator, Donald Thomas, 55, of Bridgeport, also had a suspended driver’s license that showed an old address. Thomas was charged with failure to display front plate, misuse of a plate, operating with a suspended registration, no insurance, operating with a suspended driver’s license and failure to notify motor vehicle department of a change in address. He was released on a promise to appear in court on April 12. 

On April 1, police were checking registrations on Main Street when a plate came back suspended on a Plymouth Neon.  The driver, Rosalind Dickson, 48, of Bridgeport, who gave police registration information in the name of third party. Dickson told police that she purchased the vehicle from a fourth party and did not know the previous owner listed on the paperwork. She explained that she was behind in paying her taxes and that’s why she hadn’t yet registered the car in her name. She was charged with operating with a suspended registration and no insurance. She was released on a promise to appear in court on April 12. 

On April 2, police stopped a vehicle when its driver was observed not wearing his seat belt. The driver, Michael Vera, 21, of Fairlea Avenue, told police that he had just left McDonald’s on Barnum Avenue Cutoff and that was why he was not wearing his belt. He added that the vehicle was not registered or insured and that he put plates belonging to another vehicle on the car to bring some food to his mother. Vera was charged with no seat belt, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, no insurance and misuse of plates. He was released on a promise to appear in court on April 12.

On April 2, police responded to a home on Peck Street on a report of lost property. The complainant told police that when he was cleaning inside his home that he could not find his 9mm handgun, which he kept in a safe under his bed. The key to the safe is kept on top of the closet shelf, he said, and he last saw the pistol two weeks ago. He told police that no one knows about the gun and his wife did not take it. The missing gun was entered into the record-keeping system by police.
