Stratford - Police Blotter

Enforcement actions taken by Stratford police from March 26 to March 29.

On March 26, police responded to Marshall’s on Barnum Avenue Cutoff on a report of a shoplifter in custody. The store’s loss prevention officer stated that he observed a female enter the store and proceed to the sportswear department and select two purses valued at $199.98 and conceal them in front of her pants and then move toward the store exit. The store officer stopped the woman near the exit on the sidewalk and identified himself and brought her back into the store office. The woman, Shanisa Hudson, 32, of Bridgeport, was searched by a female store employee and the two purses were recovered. She was then brought to headquarters and charged with larceny. Bond was $1,000 and court scheduled for April 6.

On March 27, police were dispatched to Justice Street on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the officer determined it to be a one-car accident in which the vehicle had collided with a house. The operator, Travis Kollack, 30, of Woodend Road, was charged with failure to drive right and operating with a suspended license and was released on a promise to appear in court. 

On March 27, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Albright Avenue. One of the parties involved, police said, was Simeone Cooke, 21, of Albright Avenue who had an outstanding warrant against him for failure to respond. He was transported to headquarters and held in $100 bond pending a court appearance on April 6.

On March 29, police responded to Wal-Mart’s on Barnum Avenue cutoff on a report of a larceny shoplifting. Upon arrival, police met with the asset protection manager who stated that he observed a female later identified as Shante Smith, 24, of Bridgeport, select multiple items of clothing and lace them on top of her purse. She then went to the sporting goods section where “she began to conceal the clothing in her purse.” Smith then processed to the front register where she purchased some items other than the concealed merchandise. After the transaction was completed, she exited the front doors with the concealed items in her purse, among them a Tootsie Roll bank, socks, tee shirt, swimming trunk, boys hooded short and a CD wallet. The value of the merchandise was $64.41. She was charged with larcency and released on a promise to appear in court on April 7. 

On March 29, police observed a car traveling north on Nichols Avenue with the registration suspended due to no insurance. The vehicle was stopped on Nichols Avenue and the operator, Miguelina Cabrera, 49, of New York told police that she was coming from her boyfriend’s home and traveling back to Waterbury. She was unable to show proof of insurance and was charged with misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating without insurance. She was released on a promise to appear in court on April 12.
