Domestic Complaint at Motel Leads to Arrest of Man

Man found to be in violation of court protection order.

On April 9, police responded to the new Stratford Motor Inn on a report of a domestic disturbance complaint.

Upon arrival, police were met by a man, Angel Diaz, 57, of Bridgeport who said his girlfriend had taken $350 in cash from his right front pocket of his pants.

Diaz told police that he had witnessed her taking it. Officers then contacted the girlfriend who said she did not take his money. Rather, she said Diaz woke up that morning and began accusing her of stealing his money.

She told police that Diaz then began to get loud and that’s when she became scared and called police. She added that the argument was only verbal.

Police added that Diaz several times changed his story, as the amount he had in his pocket, he said, went from $350 to more than $2,000. With Diaz being unsure of his story, police said, there was no way to prove that the woman had taken his money.

When Diaz was checked for outstanding warrants, it showed that he had a restraining order against him and that the woman was the protected party. Given the terms of the protective order, police found Diaz to be in violation and handcuffed him and brought him to headquarters.

He was charged with a criminal violation of a standing criminal protective order. Bond was set at $10,000 and court was April 11.
