Bike-riding Youths Arrested for Car Break-ins

The following arrest information was supplied by the Stratford Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two youths on bicycles were nabbed by Stratford police early Saturday morning after the teens allegedly broke into several cars on Summer Street and stole numerous items and cash.

Police officers were dispatched to Summer Street at 4:56 a.m. July 23 after receiving a report from a homeowner that he saw the boys riding bicycles and breaking into a neighbor’s car.

Officers located two boys matching the description and took them into custody. The police report said the boys’ pockets were filled with items including a GPS unit, sunglasses, wallets full of cash, folding knives, a cell phone and a camera. The wallets reportedly contained IDs for residents of Summer Street.

Other officers went to Summer Street and located three cars that had been broken into and were in disarray, according to the report.

The two juvenile suspects are residents of Bridgeport. Their names were not released because of their ages. They were each charged with three counts of burglary in the third degree, three counts of sixth-degree larceny and criminal mischief, and released to their parents’ custody.
