'It's time the South End broke free from North Stratford'

A look at the day's comments from Patch account holders in the region.

"I think the new Town Hall for South Stratford should be built there. It's time the South End broke free from North Stratford. What do we gain by remaining part of Stratford?" An empty building in town has the potential to be prime real estate. While some people want new businesses, wants secession.

"Enough is enough! Students are children and want to act like adults, yet they defend their actions and place blame elsewhere. School is for learning, not socializing and my tax dollars go to providing an education, not providing an environment where drugs are taken. We ADULT taxpayers should demand that the school administration and police take this seriously and not sweep this under the rug." An at school and commenters like demand action.

"I am so grateful that we have people like this in our city to make it what it is. These men and the association as a whole are doing so amazing things and played a huge role in my decision to move to Milford." worked with local government to building dune crossings and improve access in the area. gives credit where it's due.

Regarding South Stratford wanting to leave and form its own hamlet, I have a suggestion. Let the North meet the South at Barnum Avenue (the zip code dividing line) Guns, knives, brass knuckles, let nothing be barred from the bloodiest fight this town will ever see (even bloodier than board of education meetings where people have been known to seek hospital treatment after seeking their own agendas rather than the betterment of the educational system). You be the judge. Is my "tongue in cheek" statement or the original more ridiculous?

Anyone who lives in South Stratford can tell you that for decades the South End has gotten the short end of the stick. The sidewalks are broken, and not safe to walk on. Some of the streets have not been repaved in over forty years. Many of the storm drains haven't worked for as long a period of time. Untill recently, town services in the South End have been lacking. At one time, 911 calls went unanswered. I have been told, by more than one person, about a man who died, when calls for an ambulance went unanswered. Hal must live somewhere else.

Paradise Green area, actually. I have seen the conditions Mike refers to in the South End and it is not right that they have been ignored. But threatening to leave the town is a completely ludicrous statement. Maybe your council people, who don't seem to hear your pleas, need to be voted out of office. Maybe Mayor Harkins office needs daily calls of complaint. My point is you need to work (fight) within in the system instead of "taking my ball and going home". I see the only alternative as moving to a different town and I doubt that you'd really want to go through that expense and inconvenience, especially if Stratford is a place in which you want to live despite its flaws.
