Obituary: William Meyer, 79

Meyer served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army.

William L. Meyer, age 79, of Stratford, beloved husband of Rosalie Lisi Meyer, passed away on Tuesday July 30, 2013 in Bridgeport Hospital.

Bill, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, was born in Bridgeport to the late Ludwig and Martha (Umlandt) Meyer and has been a lifelong area resident.

He was retired from the State of Connecticut as a Bridge Inspector. Bill was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the UConn Women’s Basketball Team. He enjoyed landscaping and doing yard work, and was a former member of F.A.I.R.C.O Bowling League.

Survivors in addition to his beloved wife, include his devoted children William Meyer and his wife Kimberly, and Kristine Torpey and her husband Mike, five cherished grandchildren Kayla, Shelby, Amanda, Matthew, and Megan all of Stratford, a brother George Meyer and his wife Sandra of N.J., a sister Margaret Frawley and her husband Richard of Windsor Locks, a sister-in-law Joan Meyer of N.Y., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by a brother Henry.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, 150 Chapel St., Stratford, with Rev. Cathy Rohrs officiating. Interment will be private. At the family’s request calling hours have been omitted. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford.
