Obituary: Michael Kalanick, 89

Michael "Big Mike" Kalanick, age 89, of Bridgeport, the beloved husband of the late Jane Rowny Kalanick passed away peacefully on April 7, 2013 in Bridgeport Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Michael was born on March 30, 1924 in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and was the son of the late Michael and Mary Bubnash Kalanick. Michael was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater and was employed by Norden in Norwalk as a machinist for 35 years.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9460 in Stratford, a member of the American Legion 196 and Norden’s Retiree Club. Michael was also an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing, he was a proud member of the NRA and lived life to the fullest and did it his way.

Michael is survived by three sons Michael F. Kalanick and wife Kathy of Stratford, Kenneth P. Kalanick and wife Karen of Shelton and David Kalanick and wife Donna of Rathdrum, Idaho, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters Anna Kalanick of Wilkes Barre, Pa. and Rita Lesko and husband Andrew of Pensacola, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Jane, Michael was also predeceased by one brother Elmer. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m. Directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Martin Ryan.

Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main St., Stratford on Wednesday April 10 from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to VITAS Hospice Care, 99 Hawley Lane, Suite 1204, 2nd Floor, Stratford, Conn.
