Renovations at railroad station parking lot dead in their tracks.

Kill the old parking plan at the Stratford Train station and give the "new blood" in the town a chance to develop a new plan for the entire site.

On October 8 of last year I wrote a blog concerning the renovations to be made at the Stratford railroad station parking areas. To date, except for the take over by the state of the now famous lot 'K"  next to the Camelot properties there has been no movement on the renovations of any of the parking areas there were addressed in the last blog.
The building that used to house the Last Call Wine and Spirits shop and is stilll the home to the Otolaryngology and Hearing and Balance Center from Yale University is still standing.Last Call Wine and Spirits is long gone to the Courtyard at the Center. The building. according to the doctors, is now owned by the state.
The rest of the project was to have the round about (the green area) in front of the Station House Wine Bar and Grill leveled, the "A" parking lot extended all the way down to the 99 Restaurant, with an exit at the location and the area between the Wine Bar and Grill and the Camelot Apartments turned into one massive parking lot.Point in fact: the lot "K" which the state wanted so bad from the former owners is still only half full most of the time.
Only the Toma's de Torquemada (STFD P.D.) and the local drug dealers and other criminal elements see to have found a use for the lot.
The Torquemada have their hiding place during the day in the rear of the lot where they can be observed with coffee, a paper and food.
One commuter who does use the lot told me that she has found empty coffee cups in the back of the parking lot.
Give it a break, Torquemada, the folks from the Public Works department have to clean up your mess.
Also the pathway from the lot to the train station is not paved, coverered with empty bottles, other items which can not be commented on in a family blog, and lots and lots of plant life, some of it poision ivy.
The whole plan for extending the parking lots need to be dumped in the trash.
Yes, tear down the building now housing the doctors office.Keep the roundabout in front of the the Bar and Grill.
That would leave an excellant piece of property open to development of small business that would have their fronts on Main Street.
The new business would add more cash to the town's tax base, while cleaning up the area and making a nice area to stroll or dine out.
Also, At the shopping center on Barnum Avenue cutoff,  there is a HUGE parking area, already paved on the site of the former fitness center in the rear of the theater and the 99 restaurant that from what I have seen is totally empty.
There is also a small path from the back of "A" lot, again over grown with all sorts of bad items, which would allow foot traffic from one lot to the other.
To my mind it makes more sense to develop the land between lot 'K" and the Station House Wine  Bar and Grill for commerical use instead of a large parking lot.
The state and the town should develop a totally new plan for the area.Get people with business sense and a New York frame of mind along with the commuters to get their input and get rid of the "old types" who are still trying to run what happens in the downtown area.
It is time for a new breed of persons to take charge of the development and know when to say no both to the town and state officials who would try to derail a new development plan for the area.
