UI to Issue Timeline for Restoration Thursday Morning [Updated]

About 8,500 Stratford customers are still without power.

Like the larger CL&P, United Illuminating expects to have a timeline of when power will be restored to the great majority of its customers by Thursday morning.

As of 10:48 p.m. Wednesday, 37 percent of Stratford was without power. That's roughly 8,500 households or businesses.

United Illuminating CEO Jim Torgerson said at a televised briefing on Wednesday morning that he understood the frustration of those in the 17 towns that UI serves in Connecticut.

"I understand these outages are a hardship on all our customers who are out," he said.

Torgerson said that UI was concentrating first on each town's top ten priorities, which were determined before the storm. He said there were line and tree crews in every town, and that another 20 workers from Nova Scotia would start working Thursday.

"We'll have over 900 resources on the ground," he said, to work on downed lines in more than 1,800 locations. More than 70,000 customers have been restored since the peak of the storm.

So much for them working faster than last storm - i havent seen a crew working anywhere in Stratford

UI will issue a timeline Thursday morning? Do they realize that will be 48 hours after the storm ENDED? Like Mark said, so much for them working faster than last storm. I also have yet to see a single crew working anywhere in Stratford. This is rediculous. As paying customers, we should have had a timeline Tuesday morning, afternoon AT THE LATEST. Now you're making us wait until Thursday, for a timeline?! Here you have thousands of people without power and with no information from your company. It would be nice to know whether we can expect power any day or if we should prepare for another week or so. This is mediocre at best, Mr. Torgerson. So much for claiming to be prepared.

Totally unacceptable. I have YET to see any Ui crews in Stratford. At some point they need to tell us the deal. I would much rather prefer brutal honesty as to how long our power will be out then some pipe dream of a timeline give 2 days after power was lost!

I couldn't agree more, Luis. I don't mind waiting a week, but UI should just COMMUNICATE with their customers. It seems like they've been in hiding for the last few days.

This complaining goes on after every freaking storm. 3 storms in just over a year have caused widespread power outages and you geniuses don't learn. First off, everyone is warned to be prepared to fend for yourself for 72 hours. Second, if you cannot be without power more than 48 hours you need a generator. If you own your home don't tell me you can't afford a generator. You don't need 5000 watts costing over $600. All you need is 1500 watts to power your fridge, some lamps, and a TV. And if you have well water or a sump pump you are nuts if you don't own a generator.

UI and crews from out of state as well as tree companies and town personnel have been working between Connors and Hawley Lanes since yesterday morning. It's *dark* and they're still out there working, which they did last night too.

Hell Mike, i've seen plenty of people with McMansions and multiple new luxury vehicles who should be able to afford a permanent generator, yet they can't even grasp the concept of having a cheap portable generator. Weird.

Stop freakin complaining!!! They are doing the best they can!!! I'd rather have them working then giving constant updates to you babies who can't handle life!! Be grateful for what u have, it could be taken away at anytime.

I couldn't agree with you more!!! I hear people are also threatening UI employees. Im sure if they could just turn the power on they would!

Wow. Why so impatient? I can't imagine organizing 900 people to take part in a riot in 2 days! Forget about all the travel, housing, communications, risk assesment, damage assesment, repair vehicles, and everything else that goes into such a monumental effort as this. Give them a bit of time to figure out what the situation is before you start screaming about being left in the dark (pun). Remember this was the worst storm in most of our lifetimes!
