Patrols Upped at School Bus Stops; Shoplifting Charges at Walmart; and More

Police Increase Patrols of School Bus Stops

Stratford police will increase patrols at school bus stops around Bruce Avenue following an incident when they said an adult man frightened a boy waiting for the bus to school.

Police said the incident occurred around 7:16 a.m. on Tuesday. Police reports said the 12-year-old boy was waiting at his bus stop when he was approached by a heavyset man who allegedly began asking him personal questions.

Police said the boy, who was not harmed, became frightened and ran away to call police. Officers identified the suspect, who was not arrested but was warned to stay away from children unrelated to him.

Police said the man had no outstanding warrants and no previous sex crime violations, but he did have a lengthy record of arrests for drugs and guns.

Louisiana Man Arrested

Stratford police arrested a Louisiana man Sunday on two outstanding warrants for the Madison and Guilford police following the investigation of a suspicious activity complaint.

Officers responded to Cutspring Road and Tavern Rock Road where they located Jerome Perkins, 29, of Monroe, Louisiana. A records check reportedly revealed he was wanted on two court-issued PRAWN warrants for failure to respond to an infraction.

Perkins was held on bond of $92 for each of the charges and scheduled for a court appearance on Sept. 29.

Vehicle Search Leads to Drug Charges

Stratford police officers investigating an indecent exposure complaint Monday arrested a Stratford woman and a juvenile on drug paraphernalia charges.

Police reports said officers were dispatched to Walnut Street, where they stopped and searched a green Geo Tracker. A drug-sniffing police dog, Kahn, assisted in the search. Police reportedly located a glass smoking pipe and arrested Jennifer Jepsen, 18, of 55 Peacock Drive, Stratford, and a 16-year-old boy, whose name was not released because of his age.

Jepsen and the boy were released and scheduled for court appearances on Sept. 30.

Walmart Shoplifting Charges Filed

Police charged a Bridgeport woman with sixth-degree larceny after she was allegedly caught by Walmart store security attempting to shoplift merchandise.

Police reports said security personnel at the store at 150 Barnum Avenue Cut-Off observed the woman conceal health and beauty items and clothing worth $72 in her purse.

Brittany Johnson, 23, of 97 White St., Bridgeport, was released on a promise to appear for a court appearance on Sept. 28.

Warrant for Disorderly Conduct

Police held a Florida man for the State Police after a records check Monday evening reportedly showed he was wanted on a warrant by Troop L in Litchfield.

Police reports said an officer stopped a couple in the parking lot of the Stratford Motor Inn, 2200 Stratford Ave., and asked for identification. Although police said the couple had done nothing wrong, a records check turned up the outstanding warrant for disorderly conduct.

Adam Gordon, 33, of Cocoa, Florida, was detained at Stratford police headquarters, police said.
