Elderly Driver Hit Four Parked Cars Then Crashed Into ShopRite Fence, Witnesses Say

Witnesses said no one was seriously injured in the accident.

At about 2 p.m. Friday witnesses said an elderly male driver hit four parked cars in the parking lot before crashing into a fence onto a grassy area adjacent to Barnum Avenue.

There were no people inside the cars that were damaged, and the elderly driver didn’t suffer any serious injuries, eyewitnesses who saw him after the accident said. Although later the man was transported on a stretcher by Stratford EMS.

A walker could be seen next to the man’s car, which had a handicapped parking permit hanging from its rearview mirror.

Devon resident Richard Tuliano said he was about to walk into the grocery store when the accident happened. He said if the fence wasn’t there, the driver would have emptied out onto Barnum Avenue traffic.

At this time, the condition of the man and what caused the vehicle to lose control is not clear. Officials on scene could not comment.
