Alleged Army Deserter Arrested; Suspected Boot Thief Nabbed

Police Apprehend Alleged Army Deserter
Stratford police caught a Bridgeport man Thursday accused of being an Army deserter.
Ramon Villafane Jr., 23, of 271 Lindley St., Bridgeport, was held on $5,000 bond for extradition by the U.S. Army Deserter Information Point in Fort Knox, KY.

Police reports said an officer saw a vehicle with no front registration plate traveling west on Barnum Avenue at 7:38 p.m. on Sept. 15 and made a motor vehicle stop. The operator, Villafane, reportedly did not have any identification, but he verbally identified himself and police said an NCIC computer check showed he was wanted on a warrant for military desertion.

West Haven Man Accused of Shoplifting Held on Warrant
A suspected shoplifter apprehended at Walmart Wednesday afternoon was held on a PRAWN warrant.
Police reports said officers responded to Walmart, 150 Barnum Avenue Cut-Off, where store security reportedly detained a man who had changed out of his old boots into a new pair and attempted to leave the store without paying for them.
Kenneth Barsoumian, 46, of 275 Park St., West Haven, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, and police said a computer check showed that he was also wanted on a court-issued warrant for failure to appear in the second degree.
Barsoumian was held on $1,100 bond for separate court appearances on Sept. 21 and 28 on the two charges.
