New Stratford Deli Comes Full Circle

Hudson's Deli has a history in Stratford.

Siblings Scott Hudson and Robin Zimmerman are following in the footsteps of their grandparents who opened a deli in Stratford a half-century ago.

Hudson’s Deli opened in Stratford Center on Aug. 12, nearly 50 years after the Colonial Square Deli started across the street in 1965, the siblings say.

"It’s this big circle,” says Zimmerman, who ran a deli in Prospect for 10 years before spending the last 12 managing a convenience store. “It’s always what we sat around the table on Christmas and said we wanted to do.”

The desire to open a family deli materialized into an actual plan after Hudson and Zimmerman both found themselves unemployed.

“We got together one day in my dad’s garage,” Hudson recalls the decisive moment about six months ago.

Joining Hudson and Zimmerman at the deli are Hudson’s wife, Diane, and his nephew, Chris.

Hudson said people are still stumbling upon the deli, which offers soups, hot and cold subs, salads and baked goods, all made on the premises.

“Our food is great and everyone should come in,” Hudson said when asked why folks should give his shop a chance. “No one’s going away here hungry.”

Hudson’s Deli, which also offers catering services, is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Like them on Facebook.
