Body Pulled From Housatonic River In Stratford (UPDATED)

The body pulled from the waters of the Housatonic River Friday was that of an 80-year-old white male, Stratford police just announced.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Stratford police Lieutenant Frank Eannotti said in a statement.

After being recovered from the river, the man was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Eannotti said.

“At this time there does not appear to be any foul play and the incident may be accidental,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing.

A body was discovered in the Housatonic River Friday.

Speaking on scene near the marina at The Dock shopping center, Police Chief Patrick Ridenhour said the body became dislodged from the edge of a dock and began to float toward the bridge that carries motorists over Route 1.

After several emergency vehicles left the area at about 1:15 p.m., Ridenhour said he was told that the body was recovered from the waters.

Police responded to the civilian call at about 12:45 p.m. Friday.
