Dozens of new creatures are entering the world thanks in part to the efforts of a Stratford veterinarian.

Several baby turtles have hatched after their mom was hit by a car in Woodbridge earlier this summer.

The mother was lost but 56 of her eggs were saved, and after an incubation time of two months, 15 eggs have hatched and more are on the way, according to Stratford resident Jim Micinilio, co-owner of Countryside Veterinarian Hospital in Shelton.

Micinilio carefully extracted the eggs after the mother turtle was brought in by Woodbridge Animal Control and incubated the babies at a nearby vet hospital.

"A special word of thanks to my good friend Dr. Tom Milos of Shakespeare Veterinary Hospital in Stratford for helping us incubate the eggs,” Micinilio said.
