3rd Annual Eli Whitney Buzz Cuts event raises awareness, and funds, for childhood cancer.

Nineteen very inspired Eli Whitney students continued the Buzz Cuts for Cancer tradition to raise money for the Tommy Fund at Yale New Haven Hospital. The students had their hair “buzzed”, and one student donated more than eight inches of her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths! These students raised more than $3,000 for The Tommy Fund! Please join us in congratulating and thanking the following students for their amazing efforts and support.

LUIS BARRIOS, JESSE BRENNAN, ALEX CECCHINO, ANDREW CECCHINO, SAM DINA, JACOB DZIENIS, SCOTT EZARIK, MICHAEL GUASP, JACOB HALSTEAD, JOHN KARAFA, KYLE LEWIS, WILLIAM MILES, SPENCER PETERSON, ISAIAH PHILLIPS, LANDON POITRAS, GAVIN ROGERS, REECE SEPERACK, AIDEN SNYDER, AND FATHER/SON TEAM:  GREG AND DEREK STANHEWICZ.

The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer acts as a helping hand to the pediatric oncology section of the department of pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, the Yale New Haven Children's Hospital and the Yale Cancer Center, working alongside the dedicated professionals in the field. Through their collaborative efforts, they are able to diagnose and provide treatment to children with blood disorders and malignancies, conduct research and teaching in the field of childhood cancer, and support entire families throughout a child’s treatment.

We are truly proud of these students who gave their time, and their hair, to help others. One student, Isaiah Phillips, raised over $1,000 by utilizing social media outreach for the cause!

A special thank you to Assistant Principal James Marciano for bravely letting the students buzz his hair; to Peter Parente, of the Tommy Fund, to PJ and Company Salon of Shelton, for donating their time and services for the haircuts! Also thanks to All League Embroidery, of Stratford, for their custom hat services
