Stratford Students See Lower CMT Scores on Every Subject

Stratford third through sixth graders scored lower year-over-year in every subject area. Some gains since baseline 2007.

The Connecticut State Department of Education (SDE) released the results of the 2013 Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) Tuesday afternoon, with Stratford’s third through eighth grade scores dropping in almost all subjects and grades.

The percentage of Milford students to score at or above proficiency levels in 2013 were below 2012 exam results in all but four grade/subjects areas, however performance exceeded the baseline year, 2007, in all but (different) four areas.

The largest and most consistent decreases year-over-year were in the lower grades (three through six), which all saw drops in every grade subject ranging from 0.7 percentage points (fourth grade reading) to 6.4 points (third grade writing).

The areas to see improved proficiency were all upper grades, with seventh graders out performing 2012 scores by 2.6 percentage points in reading and 2.7 points in writing. (Math scores fell by 2.4 points.) Eighth grade reading and math scores rose by 1.2 points and 0.1 points, respectively, however writing scores dipped by 0.7 points.
