Coffeehouse Chat: 'I'm Looking for Property Taxes to Be Lowered'

The election is the talk of the town in more than just Stratford's polling places today. Stratford Patch caught up with voter June Cullen at Doughnut Inn/Roly Poly at Stationhouse Square. Cullen, chatting with her friend, had just come back from voting and said her main concern in the ballot booth was property taxes.

"I'm looking for them to be lowered," she says. "They've been ongoing since this mayor's been in. It's been worse with the tax increase, and I would certainly like to see that lowered. And you have a lot of properties for sale due to people not being able to afford living here."

"A lot of seniors live in Stratford, and I'm one of them," she says.

The road situation in Lordship also concerns her, she says.

"It's at a standstill," she says. "We only have two ways to get out — and when it floods, what do you do? In high tide, you're swamped. That could be tragic, if you can't get in and out."
