Stratford EMS Announces new Mobile Data Terminal technology

STRATFORD, CT – Stratford EMS has announced the acquisition and successful deployment of new iPAD Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) technology to enhance it’s EMS response capabilities.

The new iPAD Mobile Data Terminals (MDT's) have been installed in each of the 10 EMS vehicles. The new MDTs will provide a new and cutting-edge level of accuracy, efficiency and information sharing that most EMS agencies still have yet to achieve.

Information gathered by the 911 dispatcher during 911 calls are entered into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and then sent out to the MDT's.

While the Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) is focusing on safely operating the emergency vehicle, their partner can use the MDT to access vital information about the scene and the patient they are responding to making their approach to each emergency more efficient. They can also update the dispatch center with important information about their location, response and needs.

The new MDT's are built from an iPAD platform using NexGen Public Safety's "NexResponder" app. The EMS crew can see Satellite Global Positioning (GPS) information as well as have the capability very soon to see weather, traffic and obtain turn-by-turn instructions assisting with their response.

The iPAD MDT’s were purchased as part of the Town of Startford’s new CAD system project.
EMS and 911 Director, Michael Loiz said that, “Choosing the iPAD as the MDT solution for Stratford EMS was much more cost effective than traditional "toughbook" laptop MDT's which typically cost about 4 times what the iPADs cost.  This allowed for those savings to be used towards other important areas in the CAD project.”
