Located in the North End of Stratford on Chapel Street, Flood Middle School serves grades seven andMore eight and is one of two public middle schools in Stratford. The school was named in honor of Stratford resident Harry Barlow Flood. Barlow was Town Manager of Stratford from 1945 until 1963, and under his leadership both the Boothe and Longbrook parks were established, as well as several schools including Bunnell High School.

Flood Middle School opened in 1972 and offers a diversified and comprehensive curriculum.

Flood Middle School is a public school with an enrollment of about 500 children. It offers a wide-ranging curriculumMore for students in the seventh and eighth grades. The school offers various athletic and academic programs, as well as exploratory courses such as, band, chorus, art, computers and music. The school also has a pool, which during the summer is used for programs of the town’s Recreation Department.

Laura Hoydick is the state representative in the 120th legislative district representing Stratford. HoydickMore was elected in March 2010 in a special election. In the 2011 session, Hoydick is a member of the legislature’s Energy and Technology Committee, the Banks Committee and the Insurance and Real Estate Committee. She is a former executive director of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, former elected member of the Stratford Board of Education, former member of the Stratford Planning Commission and was active in both the Second Hill Lane and Flood Middle schools PTAs. She has volunteered for Sterling House, Stratford Youth & Family Advisory Board, Our Lady of Grace Church, Greater Bridgeport Ameri-Corps and the Perry House Foundation. Representative Hoydick has also won numerous awards, including the Women of Distinction Award and the Youth as Resources Adult Volunteer Award. She is the wife of Paul Hoydick and has three daughters. Representative Hoydick earned a BA in business from Sacred Heart University.
