Good for them. How can an illegal alien be allowed to have a license? They're here illegally butRead More then allowed to have a government ID? What bizarro world do our so called leaders in Hartford live in?
Rose B May 24, 2013 at 02:42 am
These are the same two Stratford Repubs who voted against taking away the 'rights' of CT residentsRead More they now don't want to have driver' licenses. Get that? To Hoydick and Miller, it's quite fine for them to own AK-47s and purchase guns without background checks....second amendment says so.!!...but hold a drivers license?? no WAY!! Really, if this doesn't show the barking hypocrisy of the Repubs in this town nothing will. It's all about the puppet masters in the NRA and the tea party which Hodick and the (mostly) invisible Miller are beholden to.

True, but I think the earliest form of "borrowing" might have been hotel stationary, whichRead More I wrote about here: http://videomartyr.blogspot.com/2012/02/hotel-stationary-fine-establishments-of.html What I really want to know is - when did they stop putting dip pens in hotel rooms? I really want to know the date of that Miller Hotel pen (above).

I think folks have graduated to taking bathrobes from hotels, as I've been seeing price tags onRead More those with a note saying they can be purchased in the hotel gift shop!

35-1, eh? I'd be curious to know who the "1" is. My top two guesses would be an idiot whoRead More doesn't care what he feeds to his family, or somebody who is in Monsanto's pocket... Either way, thank you to the other 35.
Common Sense Moderate May 24, 2013 at 08:46 am
touche. what I should have said is, "IF" there is a police officer littering... However,Read More watch out what you ask for, Mr. Stevens. While I have respect for most police officers and many are wonderful people, I can take my camera - today - and find cops breaking the law, or at least not following their own rules/regulations - in this town and others, and it happens every day - from agressive driving when there is no emergency (just the many/most cops drive on a regular basis) to flicking cigarette butts out their cars (!) - littering, yeah - to lesser shortcomings such as blatantly ignoring minor crimes taking place under their noses - ALL the time: other people littering, speeding, driving aggressively right in front of parked police, who are often doing reports - or texting - and are not even looking - in other words, looking the other way. Many cops who should be directing traffic at construction sites sit in their cars instead - it's easier - and this takes place even as little old ladies are trying to switch lanes at the rotary and no one's letting her in... many/most cops just sit in their car. I'll tell you what, though, maybe I'll do a new blog entirely devoted to the topic of 'a few bad cops in Stratford' and then we can talk some more about it smart guy.
Chris Stevens May 23, 2013 at 09:19 pm
Wow, Gary and Common Sense, do you guys have proof concerning our unjust Police Officers littering,Read More drinking their coffee and reading the paper? Please include it here, if not I guess your just " assuming "? I guess the both of you don't drink coffee, eat or read the paper either? Is that true? As a current town resident and frequent metro north user I have had nothing but positive relations with the police that sit in the lot doing their required paperwork on the in car computer or the officer that is hired daily to sit in the lot and monitor traffic, parking etc.....I guess if you two are that negative next time YOUR house gets broken into, YOU get into an accident, YOUR car get vandalized, or YOU get assaulted and injured, call someone else......after all they must be too busy drinking coffee or reading the paper....kinda like YOU......

I don't think he was saying folks were old, just some of the ideas. Especially the numbskulls on theRead More Town Council (not all of them are--but the majority, sadly, are). The terribly executed micromanaging mindset of our small-minded town government continues to bog down nearly any project that tries to grow roots in our town. They still seem to think that Defense Manufacturing is going to come back and 'save' Stratford. They seem incapable of accepting that an increasing number of residents do not work in town, do not have the luxury of walking to their job at the shop, do not have the capability to attend meetings scheduled for the early-bird special set. Unfortunately, many small(ish) towns suffer this same fate; posts filled with people who cannot think creatively and opt for the easiest solutions to any problem--if they're not ignoring them entirely. And come election time, all they need to do is scream "No New Taxes" and they get reelected. I see a large influx of young people into our community. And now is the right time to address their needs & wants-more public transit options, more nightlife and eateries (i.e., restaurants not selling pizza or doughnuts), interesting special interest shops. Instead, the town will continue catering to the "people of WalMart" and doughnut crowd.

What does getting a check sent faster have to do with anything? A new face doesn't mean much if itsRead More following the routines of those before it.

Maybe the Mayor is having Public Works practice plowing for the next snowstorm!

Agree completely. Libertarian. It galls me that this town's "leadership" has apparently,Read More once again, failed the residents with their 'Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight' approach to everything. If they stopped fussing with their idiotic Gerrymandering plans, perhaps they would be able to pay attention to what the various commissions and departments are actually doing. They WORK FOR US, or so I thought. Obviously I'm mistaken. Can these clowns do anything well?
Danny Cook February 20, 2013 at 06:14 am
I agree. Harkins should unlock his office door and let the public in.
Danny Cook February 20, 2013 at 06:07 am
How large is Pirhala farm land and is it being use for anything.

Mr. Pedoto, For what it's worth, I've always supported the dog park as presented, evening giving theRead More young couple some direction at their first town council meeting. My phone # & address are published. I'm available to be contacted, instead of internet or newspaper. I've limited mobility. I work weekdays. I'd be willing to meet in a public place. You can go to stratfordcharter.wordpress.com/ where I'm relentlessly mocked. I counter PERSONAL INSULTS whereas I try to post PUBLIC ISSUES. - There are certain things simply not appropriate for blog or newspapers. They will not be discussed, nor will I post rebuttals ad nauseum to those who have vested interest to discredit me. Are conmen or thieves going to announce his/her intentions? If slippery slopes of wrong doing gradually go out of control ... unintended consequences ..... Book: "Rockefeller syndrome" Police/Attorneys/Judges at each court house know everything illegal going on in their geographic area. Mr. Pedoto, it's a world of specialist, who lack big picture generalists' or gestaltist ability to see beyond turf, purview or interest. O.peration Overlord ceased Colonial Empires S.ecrecy=Indoctrinated. S.teganography/Cryptograpy =Language Governments=Compartmentalized. Minions=Cruel Belief structures, general myopia, & too busy, exist keeping many people from stepping back to see what's "hiding in plain sight." Google: Invisible gorilla experiment. Bless

Dilbet your too funny, maybe the Police can forgo cars altogether? I guess they can just walk toRead More their calls for service? How about we sell all the fire trucks too and when YOUR house burns to the ground you can just throw water on it from your neighbors pool.....Dilbert maybe you should run the town, seriously get a clue, way to go SPD, you put your lives on the line 24/7 you deserve new cars......and really what is STPD? Maybe you should stop smoking pot Dilbert, how old are you now??????
Dilbert Adams May 23, 2013 at 04:39 pm
wow what a waste of tax payer dollars. We could of use this money for economic developments. LetsRead More become energy independent instead of buying gas guzzling v8 cop cars. Now the STPD can speed across Stratford to catch those pot smoking kids.
Joe Paul May 22, 2013 at 03:35 pm
My compliments to Police Lt. Curtis Eller and his team. This appears to be a good choice that willRead More better serve our citizens.
Robert Chambers May 22, 2013 at 07:59 am
It will be filled with friends of friends, relatives, etc. It's an incestuous lot up there in theRead More DESPP. I wonder if in their rush to enact a law they ever once wondered if it would prompt people to get up off their butts and get their permits and buy lots of firearms. That's been the end result.. way more guns!
Starla May 21, 2013 at 04:50 pm
The article should have stated where and how to apply for the jobs. How about it, Mr. Bagley?
Theresa May 21, 2013 at 02:53 pm
Money for these hires must be appropriated by the State Legislature. Time is running out. There is aRead More backlog, and now new checks. Also current pistol/gun owners are requesting lists of data base records that show what guns they currently own ON RECORD. Some of those records are flawed showing firearms that were sold years ago. This is a mess. It is a case of wanting to do the right thing but not thinking it through. Logistics, logistics, logistics. Good luck.

jim--I was a first responder for almost 15 years. It was rewarding- but quite frankly, theseRead More days, there are too many first responders with attitudes. can no longer just say "thanks to all of you" -
