Enjoyed the special menus at Stationhouse Wine bar and Riverside Bistro this week. Both wereRead More excellent but unfortunately not crowded. Was expecting more interest, especially since special menu selections were so affordable. Wish we had more time to visit and sample. There's still time!
Nancy Ann Macri April 15, 2014 at 07:09 am
@bossy - so glad you enjoyed Station House! That's our go-to place :) Staff and food is great... WeRead More went Saturday night and it was hopping!! So glad our local restaurants were able to get new faces in to experience their food... Good Luck to all the restaurants that participated!

Get back on topic. And while you're at it cut the condescending, holier-than-thou, I'm smarter thatRead More you, intellectual pinhead act. You don't want to hear others ideas and opinions. We are somehow not on your level. The only jihad is yours. Your posts speak volumes. Thanks in advance.
Joe Blow April 7, 2014 at 07:15 pm
Hey Reyn, you write a lot but say nothing then follow up with some insult or name calling, typicalRead More liberal B.S. What you refer to "jihad" is me laying out the truth that you choose to ignore while trying to cover it up with your circle talk or backpedaling. You are a weak coward like all liberal loons who backdoor everything.
Joe Blow April 8, 2014 at 01:49 am
Hey Tabasco and Reyn, maybe this will help put things in perspective for you and give you a simpleRead More understanding of the working middle class getting raped by the gubbmint. BTW- Note which state is the highest taxed, lol. Enjoy, statistics from a reliable source http://dailycaller.com/2014/04/07/tax-freedom-day-falls-three-days-later-this-year/

Well Larry, I read your blog and have some mixed feelings on the subject. First, the human body isRead More not intended to be a herbivore (you can start by looking at your teeth which are intended to rip and eat meat). Having said that, I'm not sure the crap they sell in stores these days would constitute as "meat" and the slop they sell at fast food places is even worse. Your blogs references to your grandparents and parents ways to obtain meat is the school I come from. We eat a lot of venison and the chicken, pork and beef we eat are all farm raised and butchered by myself. I do all my own cutting and packaging as well as the processing. Yes, I do make my own hotdogs and other processed meats.
CAjones March 31, 2014 at 04:10 pm
It's amazing how one obscure thread about free coffee brings out so many opposing views onRead More everything but coffee..... Don't you people have lives? It's free coffee people not "Cosmos". Maybe you folks are drinking too much coffee..... or something!!

They are laying off massively in Maryland. Why in the world would they come to the highest taxedRead More state is what I can't figure out. Then again probably some quid pro quo behind the scenes between the 2 idiot Gov's.
Jen DellaCamera March 30, 2014 at 08:37 pm
They laid off hundreds in CT as well - to go to Maryland! Someone I know was laid off recently -Read More except it wasn't a layoff, they offered him a job - it was a DEMOTION in Maryland. Way to go, Verizon. Glad my phone is AT&T.

@emr...daily basis?
Paula Antolini March 13, 2014 at 01:14 pm
Sir....Perhaps emr did not mean that literally...but I did find that there is concern by utilityRead More companies about aging systems in older cities, "what to do about aging natural gas mains, many of them in difficult-to-access locations in older urban areas, which have deteriorated and are prone to leaking".....here's one NY example: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/energy/2014/03/140312-east-harlem-explosion-natural-gas-leaks-risk/

The absolute worst business to approve during a time when the entire state struggles with poor or noRead More healthcare coverage. Liver disease and other major illnesses attributed to alcohol consumption, not to mention motor vehicle deaths, is the inevitable outcome of a brewery. To think the benefits of a brewery will outweigh the negative effect more alcohol has on a community is outright foolish. Bliss, Alcohol or Love which one is it?

United Technologies will invest as much as 4.5 billion dollars in Connecticut over the next 5 years.Read More They are collecting 400 mio in income credits. United Technologies expects to make net 6.3billion dollars in 2014 and 6.9 bio in 2015. Ct has a state corporate income tax of 7.5% meaning they pay in just corporate income tax about 500mio a year. (and will receive under 30 mio a year for the next 14 -meaning net the corporation will be paying Connecticut treasury net 470 million a year. Obviously their executives and employees also pay tax; also use services in Ct -which then leads to more business for many . Could you help me understand how you subsidize United Technologies? A company is not a person. They dont use education. Etc. Sounds like you think we would be all better off if these corporations left, and you stopped subsidizing them? You honestly think that if the top 30 corporations in Ct left you would have a smaller tax bill?
Harry February 27, 2014 at 10:37 pm
Porter, if the 7.5% rate is to high for theses specific companies, why isn't the rate reduced forRead More all corporations in the state? Maybe I'm a bit confused on subsidies / credits, But wasn't part of the deal that we would be building new facilities for them? Who is paying for that? I don't want one business to leave the state nor do I believe that we should bribe anyone to stay. If the rate is to high for Pratt then it's too high for everyone. Is there anywhere we can find out the exact amount that Pratt paid to the state of ct for year 2013?

While we see Sikorsky get hit with the recession and shed 100's of jobs, Joe Lieberman rode off intoRead More the Kibbutz with millions and Rosa & Stanley Greenberg is right behind him. And HERE is the scam by which she stuffs her pockets–with campaign money! “Federal campaign records reveal a self-dealing relationship between a senior Democratic Connecticut congresswoman [Rosa DeLauro] and her husband’s political consulting firm…the funds DeLauro donates to help the DCCC [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee]” ultimately re-enter her household through her husband’s business, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research “for polling and other services…It’s not just a conflict of interest, it just looks bad. It looks like she’s raising money and giving it to herself.” [No kidding!] “..Rosa DeLauro has established a persona of being a champion of the safety net while at the same time being a champion of amassing great wealth for herself and her husband [Stanley Greenberg] during her tenure in office.”

Theresa February 23, 2014 at 02:58 pm
Yes it is all our fault. Let's roll back the clock to voodoo economics, an unfunded war and theRead More 2008 stock market crash. Problem with folks like you is that you don't like it when a liberal takes your side, you still have to pick a fight. Try sticking to the topic.
Paul Tavaras February 24, 2014 at 12:58 pm
I'm with you, Theresa, the right- wingers have decimated our country. Now one of their own isRead More looking for brownie points, claiming his priority is helping these soon-to-displaced employees. How're you going to do that Sen. Kelly? Your party continuously votes against extending unemployment benefits. You and your party calls them entitlements, 'free stuff', etc. these people, through no fault of their own, are about to join too many others in suffering job losses. All this, even though they've acquired a 9 figure contract! Our president has a jobs bill, that's been sitting on the desk going on 5 years now! Because of the hatred of his race, the right winged nit wits are purposely thwarting any effort to get our country working again. How many more examples are needed to convince everyone to vote out these union busting, bigots?
