One of Stratford's two ocean-facing beaches, Long Beach on the western tip of Lordship is exactly as it sounds -- a long strip of sandy beach on Long Island Sound. Accessible to the public by permit, Long Beach's entry is at the end of Oak Bluff Road. Long Beach is approximately 1.5 miles long and acts as a coastal barrier for Lewis Gut, with the vast wetlands located north of the beach. Long Beach is generally divided into three sections: the east beach area is most frequented by sunbathers, swimmers, fishermen and sail boarders, while the middle beach area is a bird nesting area. The western most area of Long Beach is where the former beach cottages were located and are now razed.
