Poetry Talk, 'Pinwheels for Peace' This Week in Stratford

Monday

Actor to Discuss Shakespeare & Poetry The Stratford Library, in conjunction with the Friends of Square One Theatre Company, will present classically trained actor Ted van Griethuysen in a special theatre program, "Poetry is Honesty," on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.

Tuesday

AARP Driver Safety Program The Stratford Library, in conjunction with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), will offer another session of the "AARP Driver Safety Program," a classroom driver retraining program designed to help older persons improve their driving skills on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 1-5 p.m.

Silvermine Art Guild-Stratford Lifelong Learners Stratford Lifelong Learners present-Silvermine Art Guild. Outreach Director, Sophia Gevas, from Silvermine Art Center will discuss the history, galleries, schools and programs. The discussion will feature works by local artists. Free discussion at the Baldwin Center starts at 1 p.m.

Park City Toastmasters Club Meeting Park City Toastmasters is an open group of members wanting to become better speakers and gain confidence for anything from being able to ace a job interview, network with business associates or give a speech or presentation to a large audience. Group meets every Tuesday evening at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility, 7003 Main St., Stratford. Free and open to everyone.

Saturday

Pinwheels for Peace Join Stratford's first-ever International Day of Peace observance by participating in Pinwheels for Peace, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21. Under the guidance of Stratford Girl Scout Rachel Sherwood, all local scouts -- and residents too -- are being encouraged to make pinwheels and bring them to the Town Hall lawn on Sept. 21 for display in honor of International Day of Peace. This free event is open to the public. Mayor Harkins will be on hand to declare the day as International Day of Peace in Stratford. For more information, please see www.pinwheelsforpeace.com.
