People Power

Democracy in Action is alive in Stratford.

Election years can bring out the best -- and the worst -- in our body politic.  What’s been great to see in Stratford is good old-fashioned people power.

Thank you to the Stratford residents who alerted the rest of us to what was going on.  Thank you also for taking the initiative to organize and mobilize. Without the public outcry, rallies, marches and public comments, the White House would still be locked up and on its way to an un-wanted, and un-deserved, fate.

This is democracy in action.

But, we need to keep active to maintain the victories we've achieved.

The Town Council's Ordinance committee met last week and voted to bestow historical building status on the White House. The full Council will vote on that next Monday.

There are other issues coming up next Monday that may interest you:

  • the possibility of out-sourcing public works functions
  • selling off our water treatment program
  • reducing licensing fees for the town’s towing contractor.

As we celebrate the 236th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, take a moment to think on how our heritage is being auctioned off a piece at a time.

Hope to see you at Town Hall on Monday, July 9.  Public Forum begins at 6:45 pm.
