Can the cold damage your computer?

With the frigid temperatures outside, it brings to mind a question -- Can leaving your computer or other devices in the cold damage them?

A computer or laptop is more likely to become damaged from heat than it is from cold. However, taking a computer that has been in a cold temperature to a warmer temperature can cause condensation within the computer, which can cause damage.  This can happen when leaving your laptop out in the car over night during the winter and then moving it into a warm building and powering it up immediately.

Our advice is if you leave your computer or other devices in the cold for a long period of time, wait a few minutes after bringing it in and powering up.
