A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible.. reschedule strenuous activites to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

An air quality alert for Fairfield and surrounding counties has also been posted on the service's website. The alert, which is in effect from 11 a.m. today to 11 p.m. tonight, "means that ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards," the NWS says.
