Stratford Library's Caitlin August Honored

Stratford Library Children's Librarian Caitlin Augusta was honored recently at the Connecticut Library Association Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony, held this year at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell, Connecticut.  Augusta was selected to receive the Faith Hektoen Outstanding Program Award for creating "Take Your Child to the Library Day" with fellow librarian Nadine Lipman (currently retired from the Waterford Public Library).  The creativity and initiative of their work has resulted in an official annual "Take Your Child to the Library Day" in Chase's Calendar of Annual Events.  The women worked with an artist to create a logo and identity for the program and have promoted the event using both traditional and social media publicity.  Media outlets nationwide recognized events at local libraries, further spreading the word about the importance of taking children to the library.  Participation in "Take Your Child to the Library Day" has grown exponentially over the last two years with libraries of all sizes in every state and several countries participating.

The Faith Hektoen Award is given annually by the Children’s Section of the Connecticut Library Association to recognize the efforts of an individual or group that has made an impact on library services to children in Connecticut at the local, regional, or state level. Developed in 1979, the award is named for Faith Hektoen, who served for over 20 years as the first State Consultant for Children’s Services.
