"Captured in Time" Photography Display at Stratford Library for March

Iconic Photojournalism Is Celebrated in Stratford

“Captured in Time” is the March art exhibit at the Stratford Library.  On loan from Hartford TheaterWorks, the documentary photography exhibit includes some of the most iconic examples of American photojournalism ever recorded. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the library's Main Lobby throughout the month of March.   It is being presented in conjunction with the Stratford Square One Theatre Company’s current production of “Time Stands Still”.

The citations for the Pulitzer Prize for Photography praise works that are shocking, powerful, striking, intimate, sensitive and haunting. Photojournalism captures a moment in time and makes a distant truth an immediate reality for the viewer.  The exceptional photograph can create a powerful cultural image and gives us the illusion of a shared memory.  The Library exhibit includes many iconic photographs whose subjects range from World War II and Vietnam to the Civil Rights movement and Hurricane Katrina.

Viewing hours for “Captured in Time” are Monday-Thursday: 10-8, Friday-Saturday: 10-5 and Sunday: 1-5 pm. The art exhibit will continue through Monday, March 31 at the Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street in Stratford, Connecticut.
