Workshops for Job Seekers at the Stratford Library

CT Dept. of Labor and Stratford Library join forces to offer job-seeking services to Stratford residents.

Three Thursday Sessions Scheduled from Nov. 3 to 17

It's an unfortunate fact that Stratford has its fair share of unemployed workers, of all ages and all skill levels. If you find yourself in this situation -- whether you have  been laid off recently, or have been seeking a new position for some time -- you may wish to know that the Stratford Library is offering an excellent opportunity to have your resume and online networking skills reviewed and improved by a professional job counselor.

The Stratford Library and the Connecticut Department of Labor (DOL) will present a series of much-needed workshops for job seekers beginning Thursday, Nov. 3. Conducted by professional job counselors from the DOL and Stratford Library Reference Librarians, the workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on consecutive Thursdays.

Space is limited, especially for the Nov. 10 and 17 workshops which are hands-on and limited to 8 people. Reservations are required by calling the Stratford Library at 203.385.4164 or emailing us at ask@stratfordlibrary.org.

The schedule is as follows:

Nov. 3: Resume Basics - Learn the dos and don'ts for creating an eye-catching resume. The workshop will be led by a DOL nationally-certified resume writer. Examples will be discussed and there will be plenty of time for questions. For individual one-on-one help, participants will be encouraged to follow-up by scheduling a consultation with a certified resume writer at the Bridgeport DOL office.

Nov. 10: Online Job Applications/Resumes – Paper job applications are falling out of use as more employers are requiring applicants to apply for jobs online. In this hands-on class, participants will learn the techniques to help successfully complete online job applications and learn how to email resumes to employers. Basic computer knowledge, a working email address and a resume on a USB drive or disc is required to take part.

Nov. 17: Get Connected with LinkedIn – Learn how to set-up a professional networking profile on LinkedIn, build a network and connect and share information about job opportunities. This hands-on workshop is taught by a DOL Career Development Specialist. Basic computer knowledge, a working email account and a resume saved in text (.txt) format is required to take part.
