Library Hosts Talk about Western Women Pioneers on March 28

'The true adventures of lady schoolteachers on the Colorado frontier.'

The 's "Books Over Coffee" program will meet on Wednesday, March 28, at noon to discuss Dorothy Wickenden's acclaimed biography, "Nothing Daunted: The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West."

Books Over Coffee is hosted in a lively and informal atmosphere by Stratford educator and author Kathleen Faggella.

In 1916, two young society women sign on to teach school in a Colorado frontier area with fierce winters, amorous cowboys and a homesteading lawyer who secretly brought the teachers in from the East to augment his search for a bride.

Educating alternately adorable and vexing children while getting to know eccentric pioneers and relishing their harsh lifestyle, the two heroines of this true story remain buoyantly optimistic even in the face of a gunpoint kidnapping.

Written by a granddaughter from letters and anecdotes offered by the adventurers themselves, "Nothing Daunted" is a celebration of triumph over adversity.
