"Start Smart, Start Here" Runs November/December

The Stratford Library, in conjunction with Connecticut's Small Business Development Center (SBDC), will co-sponsor four free workshops for fledgling entrepreneurs who want to learn about starting a business in Connecticut.

The Small Business Development Center is a collaboration with the US Small Business Administration, the Connecticut State University system and private partners throughout Connecticut.

The library’s four-part series, "Start Smart, Start Here," will be presented by speakers associated with the Center. All dates are Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be held in the Stratford Library’s Lovell Room. SBDC certificates will be given to attendees who complete all four workshops. The schedule for the series is:

November 15: Entrepreneur Self Assessment: Do You Have What It Takes?
Explore the pros and cons of owning a business and learn about the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and more.

November 22: Starting Your Business: a Step-by-Step Guide
Learn the process that is key to starting a business in Connecticut. Learn about options for business structures, insurance, tax considerations, state and city agencies and availability of financial assistance.

November 29 & December 6: Writing a Business Plan: Your Company’s Road Map
Consists of two sessions during which talented advisers will provide hands-on instruction with counseling. Participants will learn how to conduct a market analysis, prepare a budget, define a business model and how to effectively communicate their business growth strategy. Participants must attend both sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion.
