Caribbean Culture Brightens the Stratford Library

Literature, Art and Cuisine are focus of "Caribbean-American Heritage Month"

Stratford Library Director Barbara Blosveren (center) welcomed members of the Caribbean community recently for the kick-off festival of  Caribbean-American Heritage Month at the Library.  Organizer Gita Capasso (left) and author Sayieda Britt presented new books by Caribbean  authors to Blosveren to add to the library collection.

The titles include: "Basketball Slave" by Mark Johnson, "A Glimpse Within" by L. Christopher  Castriota, "Till" by Dave Britton and "Poetically Etched in Stone" by Sayieda Britt.  A special literature and art exhibit celebrating Caribbean-American Heritage Month is currently on display in the Main Lobby of the Library.

The display, in the library's main lobby, includes a steel drum, oil paintings by noted Caribbean artists, sculpture, and many books of Caribbean literature and about Caribbean culture. The books are available to the public to borrow. The special display will continue through June.
