"Birds and Butterflies" Topic of Special Sunday Afternoon Program at the Stratford Library

The Stratford Library Adult Services Department will present a special program devoted to “Attracting Birds (and Butterflies) to Your Yard & Garden” on Sunday, October 20 at 2 pm.
The program, led by Connecticut Ornithological Association member Frank Mantlik, is free and open to the public. Stratford resident and bird tour leader (local, US and International) Frank Mantlik is a published bird and wildlife photographer and member of the New Haven Bird Club.  For the Library program he will discuss how birds control insect pests and rodents, pollinate plants, disseminate seed and improve the health of gardens, farms and forests.  Birds are also indicator species alerting us to serious environmental health issues. Mantlik will explain the wide variety of “backyard” birds that are possible in Connecticut and how to best attract them.
In addition to seeing photos of the avian possibilities, he will discuss various ways of attracting them (and butterflies) to one’s yard. This popular hobby can provide endless hours of enjoyment. “Attracting Birds (and Butterflies) to Your Yard & Garden” will begin at 2 pm in the Library Lovell Room, 2203 Main Street in Stratford on October 20.  The program is made possible by support from the Claudia McCoach Memorial Fund.
