Stratford Football Coach John Svatik Steps Down

After four years, the coach is leaving to pursue other opportunities, according to the Connecticut Post.

After four seasons, Stratford High School football coach John Svatik is heading out.

The move caps the end of a season that saw the Stratford Red Devils go 10-31 in his tenure and 3-8 in 2013, including a 12-10 Thanksgiving loss to Bunnell.

Svatik told the Connecticut Post he was leaving to pursue other opportunities.

"Any time you consider leaving a program where you spend a lot of time and energy and you have wonderful kids, they're always tough decisions," he told the Post. "It's never an easy decision."

Svatik came to Stratford after a career as a college coach, holding positions at Sacred Heart University, Wesleyan, Central Connecticut State University and others.

Svatik did not specify where he plans to coach next.
