Stratford Students Make the Grade: March 16

From dance to advertising to the great outdoors, Stratford natives are active at university.

These students may have moved on to school outside of Stratford, but they are still making their hometown proud by making the grade.

Julie Klaric, a freshman at the University of Connecticut majoring in Biology, made the Dean's list for the Fall 2011 semester and was inducted into Alpha Lambda Honor Society on Feb. 23, 2012.

Matthew Fazekas and Domingo Perez were selected as Quinnipiac University orientation leaders for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Orientation leaders act as university ambassadors and are among the first individuals to help transition incoming freshmen to campus life, according to the Hamden college.

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's American Advertising Federation.

Joelle Schrock, class of 2012, is a member of the American Advertising Federation. Schrock is majoring in Communication. Schrock is director of fundraising for the club.

Melissa Walters, class of 2013, is a member of the American Advertising Federation. Walters is majoring in Communication. Walters is treasurer of the club.

The purpose of the American Advertising Federation is to inform and educate students about the different aspects of advertising and the advertising industry, according to the Willimantic college.

Amelia Moffat, class of 2013, has become a member of the Dance Team at Eastern Connecticut State University. Moffat is majoring in Psychology.

The purpose of the Dance Team is to provide school spirit and entertainment to the student body, faculty and staff at Eastern through numerous dance performances, the school says. The Dance Team also competes at various local and out-of-state competitions.

Joelle Schrock, class of 2012, is a member of the Campus Lantern at Eastern Connecticut State University. Schrock is majoring in Communication.

The mission of the Campus Lantern is to inform and educate the campus community about news and events happening on campus, to create a place where students can gather and discuss topics important to them, and to provide a source of valuable truthful journalism for the student body and beyond, according to the school.

Schrock is also a member of Eastern's Outdoors Club.

Joan Corcoran was named to the Fall Semester 2011 Deans' List at Merrimack College. To be named to the Deans' List, a student must achieve a 3.25 grade point average or higher, based on a 4.0 grading system.

The following local students will be taking part in an internship this spring through the Marist College Communication Internship Program:

John Enright, a Senior Communication/Sports Communication/Radio/TV/Film major, will intern at Marist College Athletic Department in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Kellie Hayden, a Senior Communication/Public Relations major, will intern at Think PR in New York, NY.

The Communication Internship Program at Marist College places students in internships that allow them to earn college credits. Interns enhance their skills, have an insider's view of the media industry, and work side by side with professionals while garnering valuable real-life experience, the Poughkeepsie school says.

Babatunde Olatinwo, class of 2012 is a member of Eastern Connecticut State University's M.A.L.E.S club. Olatinwo is a Biology major.

The Men Achieving Leadership, Excellence and Success (M.A.L.E.S.) organization strives to foster inclusive professional and personal development opportunities, which enhance and aid to the overall fabric of civic engagement and the academic and social elements of young men within a campus and community environment, the college says.

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's Repertory Dance Troupe. The purpose of the Repertory Dance Troup is to expand members' knowledge of dance styles, to provide an outlet for artistic expression and to offer members experiences and new discoveries in dance.

Kristen Chonko, class of 2015, is a member of the Repertory Dance Troupe. Chonko is a Pre-Secondary Educ Certification major.

Lauren O'Brien, class of 2014, is a member of the Repertory Dance Troupe. O'Brien is a Communication major.

Ashley Prosenak, class of 2015, is a member of the Repertory Dance Troupe. Prosenak is a Pre-Early Childhood Education major.

The following Stratford residents are among those to be named to the Roger Williams University Dean's List for the Fall 2011 semester. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean's List that semester, provided that they have not received any of the following grades: F, I, NP or NS.
