Stratford Students Make the Grade: June 19 (Part 1)

From graduating seniors to dean's list accolades, Stratford natives are active at university.

Editor's note: Part Two of June 19's edition of 'Stratford Students Make the Grade' will appear later today.

These students may have moved on to school outside of Stratford, but they are still making their hometown proud by making the grade.

Stratford resident Jenny Cheng graduated from Bryant University on Saturday, May 19, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting.

Stratford native Sarah Calgreen was recognized for participation in campus activities recently at a ceremony in the Griswold Theatre. More than 75 students received awards at the Co-Curricular Awards night program, as students, parents, faculty and administrators gathered to honor the student leaders.

Calgreen, a Senior majoring in Criminal Justice at American International College, received the Henrietta Littlefield Award, Carocari Award and Student Government Executive Board Award.

Stratford residents Tarun Pereira da Silva and Eufrida Pereira da Silva both received a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth graduate commencement on May 26.

Skidmore's Class of 2012, totaling 627 baccalaureate candidates, participated in the College's 101st Commencement Saturday, May 19, at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Genevieve Brett of Stratford received a BA degree Summa Cum Laude.

The following Stratford students were named to the Dean's List at the University of New Haven for the spring 2012 semester. Full-time undergraduate students must have a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA for the semester to be eligible for the Dean's List.

Some 2,552 students were awarded a variety of bachelor's degrees during the University of Vermont's 209th Commencement ceremonies on May 20. Those Stratford students were:

Zachary D. Garber received a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Olivia B. Watson received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences.

The following Stratford residents graduated from Quinnipiac University during the 81st undergraduate commencement exercises on May 20.

Nicole Kates, Bachelor of Science in Marketing

Lauren Therien, Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Mark Yaworowski, Bachelor of Arts in Journalism

The following Stratford residents were awarded bachelor of arts degrees from Connecticut College at the 94th commencement ceremony on May 20.

Margaret Frattaroli majored in history and American studies.

Lauren Pappas majored in art.

The School of Education and Professional Studies and the Graduate Division at Eastern Connecticut State University held its 12th Annual Excellence Expo May 2. The expo took place in several locations across campus, including the Student Center, Charles R. Webb Hall and the J. Eugene Smith Library.

Daniel Whipple '14 of Stratford, CT, was one of the participants. Whipple's major is Sport & Leisure Management.

Melissa Walters '13 of Stratford, CT, was one of the participants. Walters's major is Communication.

Keene State College has released the Dean's List for the spring semester 2012. Among the 1,390 students named to the Dean's List are:

The Elizabethtown College Department of Fine and Performing Arts presented a spring program of music and drama, that celebrated the arrival of spring and the end of the semester May 2.

Robert Codio, a Freshman, of Stratford, CT, took part in the performance. Codio also performed in the school's production of "Pirates of Penzance" on May 6.

Dan Squezello received his Masters of Divinity from Southern California Seminary.

Lauryn Shirra, a 2010 graduate, made the Dean's List at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. She is an Arts Administration major.
