In celebration of National Nutrition Month, students at St. Mark School in Stratford recently participated in a "100% Breakfast Challenge."
For one full week, students were encouraged to eat a breakfast that included something from each of the following food groups: fruit/vegetable, whole grain, lean protein, and dairy/calcium.
The school's first grade class won the challenge with 72% of their breakfasts being 100% complete! All the St. Mark students who participated learned about the benefit of starting the day off with a healthy breakfast!
In coordination with the Breakfast Challenge, the school also held its 3rd Annual Nutrition Fair and Healthy Recipe Cookoff.
Students in grades K-8 had the opportunity to learn about good nutrition in a fun and positive atmosphere! They played games like Food Pictionary, Name the Mystery Veggie, and Family Food (like the Family Feud game show, but about nutrition!).
They also got to taste new foods and judge healthy recipes made by other school families as part of its Cookoff contest.
