Schools Superintendent Announces Snow Makeup Policy

Parts of April vacation in jeopardy as closings due to bad winter continue to pile up.

A letter to Stratford school parents dated Jan. 31 from Schools Supt. Irene Cornish has clarified how the Board of Education will apply lost snow days to the school calendar.

Cornish wrote, “The Board of Education has voted that all snow days used this school year (2010-11) will be added to the end of the school year through June 24, 2011. After that, additional snow days will be deducted from the April vacation starting with Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 21 (April 22 is Good Friday).

“Once the April vacation is exhausted, any additional snow days (if needed) will be added to the end of June starting with June 27 through June 30. Under Connecticut state law, school may not be in regular session beyond June 30,” she concluded.
