Marching Band Student Seeks Support to Win Grant Funds for New Uniforms

High School Marching Band member says: One of the consequences of the difficult economic environment across the country is tremendous pressure on funding for education and music, particularly here at Bunnell High School.

Dear Residents of the Town of Stratford:

I am a student at Bunnell High School. The Bunnell and Stratford high schools combined Marching Band and are in need of new uniforms (uniforms are more than 15 years old and look like rags).  We have joined the Pepsi Challenge and would like this to be a town-wide event or we are never going to win.

Here's how to vote: (vote every day in the month of May - you must be signed into your Facebook account or log in to the Pepsi Challenge website for your vote to count).

Go to: http://www.refresheverything.com/refresh-bunnell-band-uniforms, or http://m.refresheverything.com/Idea/9409

You should vote once DAILY through Facebook, Email or on your Mobile device by texting 106256 to 73774 (Pepsi) OR BOTH!

Voting ends May 31. Please vote every day -  this won't cost you anything but a few minutes each day - PLEASE help us!

We can win a $50,000 grant to fund the purchase of new uniforms with your help.

In the race for excellence, uniforms like these really count.  However, as you probably know, one of the consequences of the difficult economic environment across the country is tremendous pressure on funding for education and music, particularly here at Bunnell High School.

Many costs that budgets traditionally covered must now be paid for through other means! Unfortunately, no amount of hard work on the field, or points scored, can change that equation.

I also want you to know a little about us.  Today, being a student-musician is both a challenge and a privilege.  It's a challenge because I must balance academic responsibilities with long hours of practicing and competing.  And, hopefully have some time for friends!

It’s a privilege because musicians are very influential within the school community.  How I conduct myself before, during and after competitions, is a reflection not just on me but also on my school and hometown.

Lastly, playing in the high school marching band is much more than winning trophies. I am learning about leadership, teamwork, and developing a strong work ethic.  Those are lessons I can apply to every phase of my life, now and in the future.

Now you know why your support and your VOTE can have such a dramatic impact and why I am so appreciative of your help.

Thanks again!
