Johnson House School Gingerbread House Display at Town Hall

Local elementary school students created colorful houses using geometric shapes that were on display at Town Hall in February.

Third graders at Johnson House School recently had their gingerbread house art work on display at Stratford Town Hall as part of an art and math exercise.

The third grade artists designed two-dimensional illustrations of gingerbread houses following several rules, including:

  • Using geometric shapes
  • Creating an environment (landscape) for the house to sit in by including details in the foreground, middle ground and background
  • Drawing at least 15 different types of candies and cookies to represent different parts of the house and landscape
  • Coloring the candy neatly
  • Demonstrating the crayon resist technique in the sky by painting a wash of paint over crayon
