Tea Party Wants to 'Take Back America'

Stratford members host a weekly protest on the corner of Main Street and Barnum Avenue.

Like they have every week for more than a year, members of the Stratford Tea Party gathered last Thursday to raise awareness about issues they say are critical to the future of the United States of America - especially with the upcoming 2012 election.

Taxes and jobs. The economy and deficit. The Constitution. Health care. These are the issues and topics discussed. "Honk for Freedom" and "We stand with Israel" are what some of their signs read.

Four Tea Party members -- Stratford residents Betty Mathis, Mark Genest and Linda Manjoney, and Shelton resident Mickey Lacrosse -- say their convictions and love of country are what compel them to spend two hours at the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Main Street every Thursday. They will continue their demonstration until, they say, people wake up and "Take America Back."
