Stratford Eye on the Beltway: Blumenthal Introduces New Bill

The senator wants to hold generic drug manufacturers accountable for patient injuries.

BLUMENTHAL: The senator announced Friday a bill called The Patient Safety and Generic Labeling Improvement Act that will hold generic drug manufacturers that injure patients as a result of side effects or known risks in their products accountable. According to a statement released by his office, the new law would address a loophole opened by a recent Supreme Court ruling.

LIEBERMAN: The senator made appearances on Fox News and CBS over the weekend to discuss the controversies surrounding the United States Secret Service and the General Services Administration. Lieberman called the behavior of the agents involved in the prostitution scandal as "reprehensible."

DELAURO: The congresswoman showed support for Connecticut's scientists and researchers by paying a visit to Biomedisyn, a Woodbridge-based biopharmaceutical company, on Monday. “It is always exhilarating to see groundbreaking biomedical research being conducted right here in our district,” she said in a statement released by her office.

MURPHY: The congressman continues to lead in fundraising efforts over former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz, according to the Greenwich Times. The two are running against each other for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacant once Sen. Lieberman retires. Murphy has raised 4.16 million in funds so far, while Bysiewicz has raised almost 1.9 million, according to the Times.
